To address this, independent Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) were established, with far-reaching powers to oversee elections and hold governments accountable.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"491\" data-end=\"759\">Over time, however, these institutions have become targets of subtle and systematic attacks. By gradually undermining their independence, political actors have been able to manipulate electoral rules and consolidate power\u2014challenging the very foundations of democracy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"761\" data-end=\"950\">This development raises urgent questions about the resilience of democratic systems and the importance of safeguarding independent electoral authorities as a cornerstone of the rule of law.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"952\" data-end=\"1361\"><strong data-start=\"952\" data-end=\"965\">Programme<\/strong><br data-start=\"965\" data-end=\"968\" \/>We will hear a personal perspective from <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Nataly Viviana Vargas Gamboa<\/span><\/span>, former President of the Electoral Management Body in Tarija, Bolivia.
